Broncos Will Start Brock Osweiler Sunday
The Broncos announced Tuesday that Osweiler will start against the Steelers on Sunday and that Manning will practice Wednesday for the first time in over a month.
Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said in a conference that what Manning did last Wednesday was a “step back in the right direction”.
Manning returned to practice on Wednesday, the first time in a month that he has been able to go through drills with the team.
Manning has not played since November 15 when he threw four interceptions in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
“I have to see where he’s at”, Kubiak said of Manning. “… We’re a football team and we go about our day that way all the time”.
Oakland Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack (52) sacks Denver Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler (17) during the second half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, in Denver. The Broncos are first in total defense, but asking the team to win 9-6 or 12-9 against the Steelers is asking a lot.
However, Peyton Manning will take it easy for yet another week in efforts to come back as healthy as possible.
Now, I’m not going to let this injury be used as a carte-blanche excuse; as our own James Merilatt detailed earlier in the season, the majority of Manning’s interceptions and mistakes were mental, not physical. But after two practies, Manning was held out of the Broncos’ practice Friday. Osweiler has been solid while leading the team to a 3-1 record with Manning out, but over the past two games the offense has not been very productive. After that? Barring a setback, Manning could make his return in a nationally televised game with a playoff bye on the line.
The rumors surrounding the Denver Broncos will likely depend on how they continue to do under Brock Osweiler.
“Peyton’s got plenty of sense, so when everything’s done at the end of the year he’ll sit down and make a decision”, Archie Manning said. It seems the Steelers have gone all-in on preparing for Osweiler to quarterback the Broncos this Sunday. I’ve said that over and over again.
The Broncos running game has been up and down this season and the team is coming into Week 15 dealing with some injuries, as CJ Anderson missed the game on Sunday with an ankle issue.
Luck returns to practice: Andrew Luckwent back to work but still isn’t ready to play. I know how we ended last week, and I know what I’ve been doing since 5 o’clock this morning.
