ABC analyst Mark Jackson on Stephen Curry: ‘He’s hurt the game.’
Mark Jackson had more unusual comments about a member of the Warriors on Friday, adding to a laundry list of weird things he’s sad about the team since being fired.
Curry’s old coach with the Warriors, ABC analyst Mark Jackson, however, declared during the network’s telecast of Friday’s game that the sharpshooting guard is “hurting” the sport of basketball. The reliance on the three pointer and the modern evolution of basketball goes way beyond Steph Curry, he’s just been the one to ideal it. He topped golfer Jordan Spieth and Triple Crown victor American Pharoah in the voting to join Jordan, Larry Bird and LeBron James as the only basketball players to win. It’s exciting. What can I say?
The Warriors’ superstar point guard, Stephen Curry, shot just 6-of-15 from the field to finish with 19 points, almost 12 below his league-leading season average of 30.8 points per game, but he found other ways to contribute, snagging seven rebounds and dishing out seven assists.
On the defensive end, Green’s presence was also felt, as his two blocks and 14 defensive boards contributed to his +14 plus-minus rating, which was the highest for any player in the game not named Steph Curry.
If you’re willing to sift through the garbage assortment of words Jackson threw together here, you can *almost* get the point he’s trying to make.
“I have to talk to him”, Curry told Yahoo Sports after the game.
“I don’t know if you’ll ever see [Kyrie] Irving and myself go 0-for-11 from the 3 ever again”, said Kevin Love after the game. “If you can’t, stop”.
“Steph Curry’s great”, Jackson said, via Eye on Basketball.
“Anything he says, you can take that with a grain of salt”, Bogut said.
Though it was Cleveland’s goal to play in the half court, other than LeBron taking poor shots in isolation, there wasn’t much continuity in the Cavaliers offense at all. Jackson coached Curry for three years in Golden State, so one would think he has a pretty good understanding of his game and just how revolutionary Curry’s skills truly are. “You can work on in that stuff”.
It was a weird thing to say on Christmas Day, even if the criticism was directed more at young players and coaches than at Curry himself. They had their six-game winning streak snapped. And if Curry and the Warriors continue playing at the level they are now for the season’s remainder, it may very well include another award from the AP come this time next year. “Younger players want to improve their shot”. They will chuck ridiculous, deep shots because Curry does it and it’s fun.
