Hugh Bonneville reveals behind-the-scenes secret about final Downton Abbey
Following the final episode on Friday, a special video from the cast and crew shows them filming the final moments on set, as they reflect on their time in the world of Downton.
“It feels extraordinary; we remember the first day we were ever here, and now here we are on this attractive sunny day”.
Downton Abbey is the highest rating United Kingdom drama of the past decade across any channel, with an average of 11 million viewers over the course of the five series, including Christmas specials.
TORRINGTON Before “Downton Abbey-philes” tune in this January to the final season of Downton Abbey on Masterpiece, CPTV is presenting a free preview screening of Downton Abbey Season 6 at the Warner Theatre, Saturday, Jan. 2.
The Dowager Countess, played by the scene-stealing Dame Maggie Smith, observes: “Every year we drink to the future, whatever it may bring”.
And it turns out, the reason why the ITV period drama came to a close after six seasons is because of Dame. I hope that will make people want to watch the show.
The “Downton Abbey” series finale airs December 25 on ITV. Julian Fellowes’ Downton Abbey, in contrast, was seen by a total of 7.7 million. Below in that was long-running BBC soap EastEnders which went head-to-head with the Crawley family at 8:45PM, picking up 5.7M viewers.
On ITV, Emmerdale interested 4.4 million (down 1.1 million) and Corrie posted 5.8 million (down 600,000).
The madcap comedy has topped the overall Christmas Day TV ratings for the last two years, pulling in 9.7 million viewers in 2014.
The BBC One programme increased to 8.3m viewers when consolidated figures, which take into account viewers watching by time-shifting and catch-up services, were released. “There are many more television treats for viewers to enjoy on BBC One over the rest of the festive season including Billionaire Boy, The Great Barrier Reef, Still Open All Hours, David Beckham special, And Then There Were None, Dickensian and Sherlock”.
