World’s Fattest Man Dies of Heart Attack at Age 38
Moreno, who weighed 700lbs at the time of his death, will be buried in his home state today.
Andres Moreno, 38, died of a heart attack and peritonitis (inflammation of the abdominal lining) in Ciudad Obregon, in northern Sonora state, his family said.
Carmen Palacios, who had been helping him during his rehabilitation process over the past year, said that the Mexican man was doing well, but he had had two previous heart attacks, adding that he became short of breath and died in the ambulance. Prior to his fatal death, he accomplished to lose 266lbs naturally and recently had weight loss surgery with the hopes to slim down to 175lbs and find a wife.
The month the Actual Madrid footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, delivered him a closed top in a bet to motivate him in his mission to reduce weight.
Told Moreno at the time: ‘I want to thank everyone, especially Ronaldo, for taking interest in my case.
Moreno had started walking again with support from another person by leaning on them.
Nearly a month after the initial operation that allowed him to take his first steps by himself after many years of depending on other people to move him around and take care of him, Moreno had lost close to 66 lbs. and said it had changed his life. His wife eventually left him.
He said: “I realised I was putting on more and more weight and getting bigger but it was like a snowball I couldn’t stop”.
‘I hit rock-bottom when I couldn’t get out of bed and go to the toilet or wash myself’.
Mexico is struggling to cope with an increasingly obese population.
Previously, Manuel Uribe from Mexico was holding the title of fattest man and was given the title of heaviest man alive by Guinness World Record in 2006.
The country also suffers one of the worst rates of diabetes, which kills more than 80,000 annually.
