Record-breaking weather makes a green Christmas
That’ll shatter the Big Apple Christmas mark of 54 degrees set in 1982.
WARWICK, R.I. (AP) – Providence has broken a high-temperature record set just previous year as the mercury soared across Rhode Island.
Through 1 p.m., Washington, D.C. had already reached 70 degrees, passing the record high of 69 from 1933.
Reaching a high around 72 degrees, Thursday’s temperatures managed to break the prior record of 58 degrees set in 2003 in the morning, according to the National Weather Service in Albany. The average temperature this month has been 51.6 degrees.
The official whitest Christmas on record was December 25, 1951, when 13 inches of snow was recorded on ground late in the day. High pressure over Bermuda is acting like pump, circulating air westward across the tropical Atlantic, then north up the East Coast.
