Miami Hurricanes vs. Washington State Cougars
“So if somebody is going to win the game, it might as well be you”. Few teams would dislike a running back room that includes Joe Yearby, Mark Walton (how about that one-handed grab?), a returning Gus Edwards and Trayone Gray. You get through the dialog, what are you going to do, leave everyone hanging? Redshirt junior safety Rayshawn Jenkins was ejected from the game on the next play for targeting Marks in the end zone. With the spread low and the quarterback and defense matchups even, look for the Hurricanes to flip the game on its head with a couple of key turnovers. “He does a great job of getting the ball out and taking what the defense gives him”, Scott said. On the next series, the Cougars used a 14-play drive to get Powell’s first field goal and a 10-7 lead.
Washington State football is a family.
Golson finishes the season completing 67.1 percent of his passes (147 of 219) for 1,778 yards with 11 touchdowns and three interceptions.
“As a team I think we complement each other to play a little better”.
“He makes really good decisions and knows where he wants to go with the ball”, D’Onofrio said. We just came back to work that next week, kept our heads down and kept trying to work every week…. Falk was throwing short, quicker passes and the running game came more into play.
“They got the game victor today”, Falk said of WSU’s defense.
Washington State is 6-2 SU in its last 8 games. Falk ranks No. 5 nationally in passing yards (4,266) and is tied for No. 4 in touchdown passes (36) to just eight interceptions. He has passed such notables as Bernie Kosar and Vinny Testaverde on Miami’s all-time list.
He spent two seasons at Washington State. Senior Deon Bush will likely be playing inspired football seeing that it is his last football game in a Miami uniform, and Cam’s boy Dallas Crawford will need to, well, not play like Dallas Crawford.
Challenges are nothing new for Miami. Showers are expected during the day, with the moisture turning to snow Saturday night.
What’s at stake: Both teams are looking to end long bowl droughts. They showed that again in the Sun Bowl.
Miami will have a hard time slowing Washington State’s offense down, the Canes have surrendered 28.8 points per game, but they did give up 58 to Clemson and 59 to North Carolina. Washington State will try controlling the game with its passing attack, which averages a nation-best 397 yards per game. Washington State doesn’t run the ball well, but if they can get into the red zone they can get things done. Scott overcame adversity and led all Miami receivers in yards with 75-yards.
“Keep an eye on: Miami’s secondary The Hurricanes” defense is filled with talented recruits, but their depth in the secondary will be tested with safety Jamal Carter missing the game due to a suspension.
The “Canes” quarterback, Brad Kaaya, leads the Miami offense. Defensive back Peyton Pelluer picked off Kaaya’s pass inside the Cougars’ 15-yard line and WSU took advantage of a poor punt and two Miami personal fouls in the final minute of the half to extend its lead. Washington State beat Purdue, 33-27, in 2001. The Hurricanes have hired former Georgia coach Mark Richt.
