Broncos coach Gary Kubiak downplays Peyton Manning’s ‘big’ workout
Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, who has not played since November 15, finished up what Broncos coach Gary Kubiak called a “really good week” of work with a Saturday morning throwing session with the team’s strength and conditioning staff. He did not play at all last week, and the Broncos are being cautious as this is an aggravation of an injury he suffered during training camp.
For the first time since taking over Denver’s offense from an injured Peyton Manning, Brock Osweiler made it clear he has no intention of giving up his gig very easily. That’s why I love being a Denver Bronco.
“Let’s go from there”, Kubiak said.
Manning is still recovering from torn plantar fascia and will not practice or be active all week.
“Brock is our starter moving forward”, Kubiak said on Wednesday (via 9NEWS). With two wins, the Broncos would be guaranteed at least the No. 2 seed, with a first-round bye and a home game in the divisional round. He has been ruled out for this weekend’s showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night and the future remains ominous for the gun-slinger. The Broncos are on a two game losing streak but essentially, they will need to win both of their next two games to win the division and if not, they will be fighting for a spot in the wildcard. But the key to the game may rest in whether the Broncos’ ground game can find the form it has shown in flashes over the last few weeks.
Kubiak demurred when asked if that would help him decide to have Manning return to practice with his teammates next week.
First, the Broncos have to get there. Their defense is simply too good to be beat by a quarterback getting his second National Football League start.
“I’m not going to sit here and bash the Pro Bowl selection just because I didn’t get in”, said Jackson, whose reward figures to come as a free agent this off-season. Or on Pro Bowl cornerback Chris Harris Jr. giving up two touchdowns to Antonio Brown (16 catches for 189 yards) after not yielding a TD since 2013.
