Miss Universe Pageant Mixes Up Crown
It’s been 15 years since India won the Miss Universe title.
The crown was removed from Miss Columbia’s head and placed on the head of the victor Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines. “I didnt expect that to happen at all”. Am I really Miss Universe?
#I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake.
“Everything happens for a reason”, the 21 year old insisted as she wiped away tears in a video interview posted on the Miss Universe Facebook page.
“It’s very 2015”, she said.
Do you agree with the claims of Miss Germany that Miss France should have been crowned as Miss Universe 2015?
The contestant from the Philippines was “confused” when she heard she was the actual victor after fellow contestant Ariadna Gutierrez was accidentally crowned Miss Universe during the live broadcast.
Gutierrez was incorrectly named the victor before Wurtzbach was given the Miss Universe crown.
“I will take responsibility for this”.
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos had immediately celebrated the win via Twitter, posting “Colombian women are the most lovely in the world!”
In a statement regarding the mix up, the Miss Universe Organization said, “The excitement of live TV was evident tonight on The Miss Universe stage with over 10 million live fan votes tabulated”.
Host Steve Harvey made one of the biggest bloopers by announcing the wrong name of the victor – effectively destroying the entire show and a happy ending. She too, though, expressed how sorry she felt for Gutierrez and hoped to find a moment to let her know.
Wurtzbach also talked about the awkward situation. “I was very happy for Miss Colombia, because she really deserved it”, Sarah-Lorraine shared in the clip. “Thank you to all for voting for me”.
