Rashid Latif is against Muhammad Amir’s inclusion in Pakistan team
“I have told them (Azhar, Hafeez) that the PCB has just called Amir for the training camp and has not selected him in the Pakistan team and if Amir will be selected, it is responsibility of the captains and all senior players to support him”, Shaharyar maintained.
He was talking to media in Lahore after meeting with Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali and said that issue has been sought out and both te players have joined the camp. If they fail to do so, we will see if we should take any disciplinary action against them.
“Hafeez had talked about his reservations when Amir was included in the camp and after meeting with Waqar, Hafeez told him categorically that he will not attend any part of the camp in which Amir is present”, a source close to Hafeez told AFP.
Amir, along with Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif, was banned from the sport for a minimum of five years in 2011.
Disgraced pace bowler Mohammad Amir has completed his rehabilitation and deserves another chance at worldwide cricket, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Shamed paceman Amir is eligible for worldwide selection once more, having served a five-year ban for his role in the 2010 spot-fixing scandal. “But, we would like this situation to be resolved amicably”, he said.
Sources also claimed that Azhar has made up his mind that he will not lead Pakistan team in the ODIs against New Zealand, if Amir is selected in the squad. ONLY DOMESTIC CRICKET FOR HIM Latif blew the whistle on some of his fellow players in 1995, his testimony forming the basis of a match fixing inquiry three years later.
The PCB chief, however, admitted that the PCB should have first talked to all the players to address their reservations or concerns.
“I understand there is a policy of the board and we have to follow it. But that does not change my view that anyone who has tarnished the image of Pakistan should not be allowed to play for the country again”, he said. “I do respect their concerns but some of them, I told them, are not acceptable”.
Earlier this month, former captain and ambassador of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Ramiz Raja, criticised PCB’s sympathy for Amir.
“So they understood and confirmed that they are on the same page with us and now we are looking forward to the success of the team”.
