Winter Weather Forecast For Friday Night, Saturday
According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain is expected to begin late Sunday in Marion County and eventually turn into heavy snow by Monday.
A significant snowstorm is expected to start Monday afternoon and last into Tuesday potentially leaving up to 10 inches of snow in part of Minnesota. Travel will be almost impossible at times. This bulk of the system will mostly track west of the Quad Cities but which way it moves will change the amount of snow and ice that will accumulate.
Periods of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will increase beginning Sunday afternoon, and especially Sunday night. The metro can expect the sleet and snow to move in just before the morning commute is underway. “These strong winds and icing may cause falling tree limbs and power outages”. Sunday night will see lows in the lower 20s with gusts up to 30 miles per hour after midnight.
The snow will be heavy at times. That is about 6 inches below normal.
A complex storm system will be affecting northeast Kansas starting as early as Friday night and lasting as late as Tuesday.
“We understand having the passes shut down this holiday weekend was a super big inconvenience for folks”, said Travis Phelps, of the Washington State Department of Transportation.
