Brees to get MRI after injuring foot in game against Lions
The Detroit Lions fullback and Long Valley native recorded two catches against the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football, with one of those a six-yard touchdown grab, the first of his career.
LIONS bounced back from their loss to the St Louis Rams with a strong offensive performance against the New Orleans Saints, sealing a 35-27 win in the National Football League last nght.
Detroit then iced the game with a 76-yard drive that ended with a 1-yard scoring run by Joique Bell with 5:24 left.
“Tough scenario there at the end of the first half where you feel like you have a touchdown”, Brees said.
“I’m sure we’ll go out there and see where it’s at”, Payton said.
Werder reported Brees wants to play the final two games, but is waiting on an opinion from Dr. Robert Anderson, a renowned foot specialist who also treated Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning this season. Abdullah ripped off a 36-yard run to the New Orleans 9 and the Lions killed most of the clock, but kicker Matt Prater missed a 35-yard chip shot with nine seconds left.
The Saints (5-9) have already been eliminated from possible playoff contention and will host the Jacksonville Jaguars (5-9) in week 16.
That prompted a fightback from the Saints, who scored 17 unanswered points when Drew Brees threw touchdowns to Brandin Cooks and Marques Colston, with Kai Forbath adding a field goal to make it 28-20.
“It was good for us to come out early in the game and run the ball and put them on their heels”.
Burton, the rookie out of Rutgers University, has made his presence felt all season, helping the Lions in pass coverage and leading the way for a committee of running backs. The Saints will have to play more like they did in a win over Tampa Bay two weeks ago, when it held Jameis Winston to just 182 yards, than the unit that has been shredded by nearly every other quarterback they faced. He has five-plus catches in four of his past five games as he continues to build chemistry with Bortles.
But it’s an especially big deal for a quarterback; Brees pushes off that right foot, and will struggle getting as much on his throws.
“Bottom line is if offensively if we could have gotten a touchdown at the end of the first half, that’s seven points”. And last week, he passed Dan Marino for fourth place all-time in touchdown passes (now 424). It keeps you in that ballpark, it gives your play-action pass a little bit more credence because they have to bite on it because they can’t just disrespect the run.
