Winter Weather Keeps Shoppers from After Christmas Sales
While the crowds aren’t as large as they were on Black Friday, Human Resources Manager Kathy Andrews says the store opened its doors at 6 a.m., and many shoppers are flocking to the clearance rack.
The day after Christmas is the third-busiest shopping day of the year, after Black Friday and Super Saturday, according to analytics firm ShopperTrak.
“I think there are more people just shopping or exchanging things then actual returns”, says Michelle Mills, Assistant Store Manager, Herberger’s Department Store.
Shoppers were out in force Saturday, returning gifts, spending gift cards and shopping the sales. They had an extra 20% off so it was a good steal.
For some, day after Christmas shopping is tradition while for others it’s just another way to spend the day. He says he likes shopping better after the holidays instead of before.
“It’s a pain. I’d rather not do that”, said Janelle Fenzel of Wilson. She was helping customers with after Christmas purchases in her store. Retailers are touting that concept levering it as a way of competing on convenience against on the stores.
The rainy weather didn’t stop local shoppers from making the most of the After-Christmas sales.

Shoppers we talked to were hoping to capitalize on deals. “I just swoop in with my giftcard and get a better deal than they got in the first place”.
After Christmas celebrations, its time to return or exchange the gift items that you have received but don’t like them. The rate is higher among millennials, 59.2 percent of whom said they will shop in stores and 59.3 percent of whom plan to shop online.
