Broncos’ Osweiler to remain starter while Manning continues recovery
Osweiler will remain the starter for the Denver Broncos.
While the Broncos could technically use Osweiler to close out the regular season and plug Manning in for the playoffs, that would be a risky move that would be widely criticized should Manning play poorly and the Broncos lose their first playoff game. You’re always trying to prove to your teammates that you’re capable of getting the job done. He was back on the practice field last week, but suffered a setback on Friday. He was unable to practice last Friday and couldn’t go on Wednesday, either. Glazer also noted that while it appeared early last week that Manning might be ready to return to the starting lineup, those plans have been put “on hold”.
Manning was not expected to practice Wednesday or be part of the active roster for Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals so he can focus on recovering from a torn plantar fascia.
Kubiak watched the workout live and said it went well. “I’m going to have him working inside because I think that’s what’s best”. A lot of positive things going on that we need to build from and not try to attack some negative here or there. The Denver Broncos have not scored in the second halves of their last two contests; and while it’s not entirely the fault of Brock Osweiler, he leads the offense.
“It’s OK”, Osweiler said. I’m not the only one. And Manning will be inactive for the game, most likely wearing a sweatshirt while standing on the sidelines.
As for his vision, “it’s OK”, Osweiler said.
The good news is cornerback Adam Jones and receiver A.J. Oddly, those same critics haven’t locked in on Osweiler, who’s posting a lower yards-per-completion output (6.7) over his six starts than Manning did (6.8).
“Watching that kid play, I mean, he’s something else, does it all day, plays extremely hard the entire game”, Kubiak said.
Through five National Football League starts, Brock Osweiler has looked like a seasoned veteran – and a wide-eyed rookie. “That’s where we’re at”.
If the Broncos do have an answer, we won’t know it until they’re forced, tooth and nail, to tell us. “I’m not anxious about it one bit”.
Both seem prone to crucial drops at crucial times. “I’m very confident in my abilities”.
