Sterling scores on debut as Man City defeat Roma on penalties
Iheanacho continued his impressive display with a fine finish following a defensive error after 51 minutes, but Adem Ljajic’s free kick four minutes from time sent the game to penalties.
The forward took a tumble inside the first 60 seconds but went on to open the scoring less than three minutes into City’s 2-2 draw in a friendly match against Roma in Melbourne.
“The doctor just said to me you can’t be around the other players”.
“You have to move on”.
Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart reveals that he had the manager’s backing to take a penalty after complaining that some of his teammates’ efforts were “rubbish”.
Although the Giallorossi played deeper than their opponents, both Roma and Manchester City kept creating chances of their own.
Now Pellegrini aims to build on that, and he says that slotting alongside the Blues “complete midfielders” will enhance the 20-year-old’s attributes. “So if he needs any advice or anything about, he can come to ask me”.
An errant pass by one of Roma’s substitutes, Ashley Cole, presented Iheanacho with a flawless opportunity to put City back in front and the 18-year-old Nigerian finished impeccably.
“He demonstrated why he’s here”.
“He’s a very young player so I think he’ll improve a lot in the future, playing with Yaya Toure, David Silva and Sergio Aguero”.
“We bought him because he has a big future”.
“If we play 4-3-3 he can bring us what he did tonight – speed, goals”. He has worked with our team for just a few days so I am very happy with the way he played.
Miralem Pjanic scored Roma’s first in the eighth minute with a thundering 25-metre strike.
Sterling joined the Manchester City team exactly one week ago when his £49m switch from Liverpool made him the most expensive English player ever.
Earlier, Sterling had his name hilariously misprinted on the team-sheet as “Stirling”. “Keep it up”, the Italian ex-City player wrote.
Balotelli, who had a hard first season at Liverpool, later attempted to clarify his remarks after receiving some abusive replies.
Of course we’re not going to support him, considering the disrespect he’s continually showed the club throughout the entire calendar year.
