The loser of the contest will enter as either the No. 5 or the No. 6 seed in the playoffs. Green Bay is 10-4 and have a slim chance to gain a 1st round bye if they can win out and the Cardinals lose out. This time, the Vikings will travel to Lambeau Field seeking to claim their first NFC North title since 2012.
The game was close until a big reversal of fortune in the final minute of the first half.
On the first play from scrimmage in the second half, Green Bay’s James Starks fumbled and Powers recovered at the Packers 28. Rodgers fumbled, which Jerraud Powers caught at the 7 and returned for another touchdown.
Arizona defensive lineman Cory Redding scooped it up, tossed Packers running back Eddie Lacy to the ground and rumbled 36 yards for a touchdown. The team managed to total nine sacks on the day and they got unbelievable performances from Calais Campbell and Dwight Freeney. Case Keenum won his third straight start for the Rams, completing 14 of 23 passes for 103 yards and a 28-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Britt in the second quarter.
Carson Palmer threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns for the Cardinals (13-2). Johnson had three receptions for 88 yards, ran for another 39 yards and took most of the second half off.
A 47-yard pass play to Floyd advanced the ball to the 33 and two more completions, plus a defensive holding call, set up Palmer’s seven-yard scoring pass to John Brown, putting Arizona ahead 17-0. David Johnson also caught three balls for 88 yards. Arizona was without both of its usual starting safeties. The Cardinals had two plays of 40-plus yards while the Packers’ two longest plays went for 17 and 12 yards.
It didn’t amount to anything, though, as back-to-back sacks of quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the next series led to another fourth down, and a real punt this time. Brett Favre holds the franchise record with eight seasons of 30 or more TD passes…. The Cardinals and Seahawks were already scheduled to kick off at 4:25.
