The interior ministry has, however, rejected Sindh’s request for conditional policing powers for Rangers and issued a notification extending the paramilitary force’s authority under a previous arrangement. After delaying the matter for a few days, the Sindh government took the issue to the provincial assembly which adopted a resolution to provide for checks and conditions on Rangers’ special powers to raid and arrest suspects.

The interior ministry had empowered the Rangers and rejected the Sindh government’s conditions mentioned in a summary forwarded to the federal administration for issuing a relevant notification.
To place in preventive custody any person not directly involved in terrorism would require them to seek a written approval from the chief minister.
“The central government trampled the principle of constitutionalism by invading the province of Sindh, [which is] against the spirit of the constitution”, the former president had said in a statement. He said that the consultations have been made but no decision has yet been reached to move court against the extension.
The deployment of Rangers in Karachi is requisitioned under Article 147 of the Constitution.
