After the group disbanded, Guest and the Patten formed a production company, Patten and Guest Productions.
Guest later served as chief executive of Crew Records.
Guest was a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1996) and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame (2001). The Pips were one of the most hailed Motown R&B groups in their day, winning numerous Grammy’s and accolades for the 20 plus albums they created together over their career.
The group, which also featured Knight’s brother Merald “Bubba” Knight and another cousin, Edward Patten, parted ways in 1989 to allow Gladys to pursue her solo dreams.
Rest in peace, Mr. Guest.
Merald Knight said Guest was “more like a “big” brother to me than a distant cousin”.
In recent years, Guest reunited with “Bubba” Knight for a 2007 Geico commercial and penned his 2013 autobiography Midnight Train From Georgia: A Pip’s Journey with his sister-in-law Dhyana Ziegler.
The Pips’ Edward Patten passed away in 2005.
