Winter weather coming Monday
The weather service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from Monday evening into Tuesday morning for counties including Monroe, Ontario, Livingston, Genesee, Orleans, Wayne and Allegany.
We will be seeing a grab bag of winter weather including sleet, freezing rain and snow.
With cold air locked in place for Monday the leading edge of precipitation will start off as snow during the overnight hours of Tuesday morning of 3am to 6am. “Up to 1/4” accumulation of ice is possible.
Target areas include the following counties: Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Onondaga, Schuyler, Seneca, Southern Cayuga, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins, and Yates.
Some nasty weather moving into Schuylkill County tonight may finally remind motorists here that it is in fact winter, David Martin, a meteorologist at National Weather Service, State College, said Sunday.
With those changing temperatures above, we could also see some of the precipitation fall as freezing rain, which will increase power outages.
The good news is that we’ll have a dry morning commute back to work. Saturday’s high temperature is expected to be 34. Between 2 to 4 inches of snow are expected in the mid-Hudson Valley. The concern for those of you in Sanilac County is that you’ll get the longest period of freezing rain, with the potential for over a quarter-inch of ice accumulation on trees and surfaces.
Madison has so far only seen 5.5 inches of snow this season, Marquardt said. The most likely time for freezing rain in Mid-Michigan is between noon to midnight.
