Titans QB Marcus Mariota out for season with MCL sprain
That play would have given the Patriots the ball at the Titans’ six-yard-line. He has thrown three touchdowns and five interceptions.
The award is not the most important thing to come out of this season for Mariota, however. The big Patriots losses on Sunday were linebacker Dont’a Hightower (knee), receiver Danny Amendola (knee) and safety Patrick Chung (hip).
With Shane Vereen gone to the New York Giants via free agency, Dion Lewis emerged as the Patriots back who balances the passing game out of the backfield.
Mariota left early in the second quarter of Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots. He hopes to practice Wednesday and play Sunday wearing a protective flak jacket. But it feels good to be back in Nashville. “You try and win at home and that’s what we did today. We have to improve on the mistakes we made”. He was accurate and picked up the National Football League game much quicker than most people expected, after winning a Heisman Trophy in a spread offense at Oregon. Even though Mariota had a 3-9 record in the 12 games, he kept the Titans in mostly every game. “I’ve seen progress with both of them, especially with Taylor. But … I think it was more the stableness of it”.
Running back James White fielded four straight short passes before the half, with wide receiver Keshawn Martin seeing one target of his own, before kicker Stephen Gostkowski missed the 48-yard field goal attempt. He also rushed for 252 yards and two scores.
Not only does White’s confidence grow with each game, the Patriots’ confidence in his playmaking ability continues to rise. Tom Brady had two touchdown passes in the game and the Titans had just two sacks. “He’s been making plays for us”.
“I wish we could execute like we did on the first drive for the entire game”, Brady said. Defensive end Chandler Jones performed nicely, getting two sacks include a strip sack where defensive end Akiem Hicks recovered the fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. It’s really a tribute to his hard work and commitment. “He’s just been steady and he’s learned a lot in this one season alone”. “He got his opportunity this year when Dion went out, and he’s done a great job”. Mariota missed two games with a left MCL sprain earlier this year and the next two weeks in a lost season are insignificant when taken against the years that the Titans hope Mariota will be their starter.
