San Diego Chargers win 30-14 over the Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins played the San Diego Chargers in what is likely the final game at Qualcomm Stadium before the Chargers relocate to Los Angeles. The San Diego Chargers are finishing one of the most disappointing seasons in a long time while the Oakland Raiders are showing more promise than anyone expected from them this season.
After 55 years in San Diego, the Chargers franchise seems like the favorite to move up north to Los Angeles, or Carson to be precise.
Melvin Gordon left the game in the second quarter with a knee injury after gaining 41 yards on 15 carries. That’s probably a taste he and the rest of the organization have had in their mouths for much of the season. From St. Louis to San Diego to Oakland, they consider themselves the innocent victims of chess game being played by billionaires. With the stadium all but completely empty, Weddle lay in the middle of the field, still in his gear, soaking everything in. “Shoot, they’re still out there now like we just won a playoff game, and we just got our fourth win”.
Rookie punter Matt Darr is having a nice season but it’s highly unlikely he’d get Pro Bowl mention.
Woodhead’s rushing touchdown was the first rushing score since Week One, when Woodhead ran it in the end zone twice for the Chargers. Murray, though, has averaged 3.1 yards per carry in the last six contests.
Miami pulled to within 23-7 when running back Jay Ajayi rushed in from 12 yards in the closing minutes of the third quarter. Before the game, coach Bill Callahan benched cornerback Charles Woodson and running back Charlie for missing a team snack.
2010 – The Raiders beat the Chargers 28-13 in San Diego on December 5 to finish off their first two-game sweep against San Diego since 2002.
After the game, Rivers said he found the whole day to be a highly emotional experience. Tannehill finished 20 of 34 for 216 yards. Tight end Antonio Gates (six receptions, 88 yards) also did damage. “Seeing Malcom and those highlights and stuff, I had a hard time calling the next play in the huddle just knowing, shoot, he’s got two games left of ever playing football….” After a wild scramble, Rivers jumped on it. The Chargers moved down the field for Lambo’s 28-yard field goal for a 9-0 lead.
