Winter storm watch issued for Toronto, parts of GTA
In the meantime, Environment Canada has cancelled a winter storm watch for Toronto, Hamilton, Halton – Peel, and York – Durham.
“An intense Texan low pressure system is forecast to track towards the lower Great Lakes tonight”.
Snow and ice pellet amounts of 10 to 15 cms are expected before precipitation changes to freezing rain early Tuesday.
“Significant impacts are expected for travellers, due to slippery roads (and) very poor visibilities”.
Heavy snow and blowing snow is forecasted for Monday night and Tuesday.
Seems like this past weekend’s freezing rain and dusting of snow were just a warm up – the first real storm of the season is about to hit.
Wind gusts from the east clocking about 70 km/h are expected Monday night.
The national weather forecaster announced a storm moving up from Texas will spread ice pellets and blowing snow over most of the region Monday evening. Warning of “hazardous winter conditions”, meteorologists believe the snowfall will continue until Tuesday afternoon and visibility will be reduced to zero at times.
