Reacting to BJP workers attempted gherao of Congress headquarter here today and subsequent clash with Congress workers, which was controlled by police later, Mr Dutta accused the BJP of trying to aggravate the situation arising out of the remark, especially since Mr Deka has already withdrawn it.
Amidst claims by both sides that sticks had been wielded and stones thrown which caused injury to some, police were called in.
In a strong reaction to the derogatory remarks by two Congress leaders, BJP supporters burnt the effigy of Deka and Kurmi in Guwahati on Sunday. “Is Congress leadership headed by a woman protecting him?”
Congress workers were seen wearing helmets with sticks in their hands and standing behind the gates of Rajiv Bhavan.
In his tweet, Madhav slammed the leader as he wrote, “Shameful statement by a Congress Minister in Assam against Smriti Irani”. They also demanded that he be expelled from Congress. The unruly scenes forced police to burst tear gas shells.
Sendeka had made derogatory remark against Irani at a public meeting in Nalbari yesterday. After he has apologised why resort to violence?
Strongly condemning the remarks, Union Sports Minister and Assam unit BJP Chief Sarbananda Sonowal told reporters here that the party’s state unit will soon file a defamation case against him. “Does Sonowal think it is Assam agitation?” he asked. He said Congress has urged Guwahati police commissioner to find out how the protest rally was taken without police permission.
