Gary Kubiak downplays importance of Peyton Manning workout
Denver Broncos safeties T.J. Ward (ankle) and Darian Stewart (hamstring) have been listed as questionable to play in Monday night’s game agains the Cincinnati Bengals according to the team’s final injury report, issued Saturday.
But Manning came back, and took with him the starting job. The recovery timetable of four to six weeks ensured that he would not be available to return until after the AFC Championship Game, if the Broncos advance that far, leading to the team’s decision to place him on injured reserve.
“Let’s go from there”, Kubiak said.
Manning returned to practice on a limited basis last week, but suffered a setback and had to sit out last Friday. But the Broncos are 10-4 while the Kansas City Chiefs, who started the year off at 1-5, are 9-5 – and have to easy opponents line up to finish the season, per USA Today. He’s 3-2. If he could just figure out how to duplicate his first half success in the second and learn how to close out games in the fourth quarter, the Broncos will be very hard to beat.
The Denver Broncos host the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16 of the National Football League schedule on Monday, December 28 start time at 8:30 PM ET, at Sports Authority Field, Denver, Colo. And Manning will be inactive for the game, most likely wearing a sweatshirt while standing on the sidelines. I have no idea what’s going on with my eye.
“It was a workout”, Kubiak said, also confirming that he personally attended the session.
After the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday, and Peyton Manning coming back from injury, the Broncos will have to decide which quarterback will lead them into the playoffs.
Saturday marks a pivotal day for Manning’s future in Denver and possibly his NFL career, NFL.com reported: “If it goes poorly, we could have seen the last of Manning in a Broncos jersey”. With the Bengals dealing with so many other injuries, it’s imperative those two play in Denver on Monday night.
A first-ever Pro Bowl nod wasn’t all that escaped Broncos defensive end Malik Jackson this week.
