Israeli soldiers wounded in stabbing attacks, 2 Palestinian assailants killed
A Palestinian man was arrested Sunday afternoon in the Old City of Jerusalem after security forces believed him to be acting suspiciously.
Witnesses informed WAFA that Israeli police opened fire on a Palestinian identified as Mos’ab al-Ghazali, 26, near the Bab-al-Jadid area and left him bleeding on the ground until he succumbed to his critical wounds.
Israeli forces have shot dead two Palestinians over an alleged stabbing attack in the occupied West Bank.
Palestinians say the violence stems from frustration over almost five decades of Israeli military rule.
Palestinian sources named the driver as Maher al-Jabi, 56, who they said died of his wounds in a Nablus hospital.
Early Sunday morning a soldier, 21, was stabbed in the back near Jerusalem’s Central Bus Station, the Israel Defense Forces said. “The terrorist whipped out a knife and tried to stab a police officer”.
The media added that earlier in the day, four Palestinians have been detained while one Israeli soldier has been injured in four similar incidents. Pedestrians stopped and helped the soldier stop the bleeding until paramedics arrived to give emergency treatment.
Twenty Israelis and at least 127 Palestinians have been killed in nearly daily street attacks and clashes over the past three months. “The terrorist whipped out a knife and tried to stab a police officer”.
The latest round of US-brokered peace talks collapsed in April 2014.
Palestinian leaders say a young generation sees no hope for the future living under Israeli security restrictions and with a stifled economy.
They are also angry with Israeli extremists who, escorted by army forces, have stepped up their raids on the sensitive site, which is Islam’s third holiest after Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and Masjid al-Nabawi in Medina.
The global bodies failed to make any concrete moves towards quelling the violence that has left over 130 Palestinians and 20 Israelis dead since October 1.
