Christopher Nolan set to direct Dunkirk evacuation drama
Coming off the back of The Dark Knight trilogy and Interstellar, Christopher Nolan‘s next project is very eagerly awaited but so far has been kept under wraps. There’s been no official confirmation as of yet, though we’ll likely hear more about this mysterious project soon.
A couple of days ago rumours starting swirling that Christopher Nolan’s next movie would be about the epic evacuation of allied soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk during World War II. The film already has a release date that is July 21, 2017, but details about the project are scarce. The lives of hundreds of thousands of Allied troops were saved in this event, and it would be interesting to see how Nolan tackles World War II era history in his trademark style.
Film website The Playlist also reports that Nolan and his screenwriter brother Jonathan have recently been visiting France “completely incognito”, while scouting locations for filming. He apparently wanted to nail down some of the adult roles before the holidays, which explains the casting of Hardy, Branagh and Rylance-all three of whom are terrific performers and will no doubt make for swell additions to Nolan’s latest pic. He will employ a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large format film, “for maximum image quality and high impact immersion”. “‘Dunkirk’ is a gripping and powerful story and we are excited to see Chris, Emma and their cast realize it on the big screen”, said Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production at Warner Bros.
