Grizzlies’ Matt Barnes suspended two games for fight with Knicks Coach Derek
During an off day of Knicks training camp, Fisher traveled to Southern California to visit Barnes’ ex-wife, Gloria Govan.
Matt Barnes didn’t take too kindly to Derek Fisher being with the former’s estranged wife this offseason.
After the news broke, the National Basketball Association started looking into the incident and it seems they’ve reached a conclusion on a punishment.
The NBA has reportedly suspended Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes for two games for an off-court incident involving New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher. Barnes, according to the Post, arrived at Govan’s home at around 11:45 p.m. on a Sunday and later texted a friend that he “kicked [Fisher’s] ass from the back yard to the front room, and spit in [Govan’s] face”.
Barnes was traded twice this winter, first going from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Charlotte Hornets for Lance Stephenson.
Barnes and Fisher were Los Angeles Lakers teammates from 2010-2012.
When Barnes heard that Fisher was at his former home he had purchased with Govan, he drove from Santa Barbara to the Redondo Beach home in order to, “Beat the s-t” out of Fisher, according to reports. He was then flipped ten days later to the Memphis Grizzlies in a deal that brought Luke Ridnour to Charlotte.
Barnes is averaging 8.6 points and 5.0 rebounds in 33 games this season with the Grizzlies.
