Stay operation of private school buses as public transport, HC told
Yesterday, Delhi Police had warned AAP volunteers against any form of vigilantism and had said that they should “assist” and “act as told” while the force enforces the odd-even scheme of restricting plying of private cars from January 1 to check pollution.
The odd-even scheme, mooted by the city government, will be implemented on a trial basis between January 1 and 15.
During the trial run, the drivers were familiarised with the route of the bus they would run their vehicles and the bus stops on the route, he said. “You just have to tweet your origin and destination with the #PollutionFreeDelhi and shortest possible public transport options will come to you as a card or as a direct message”, said Khurshid.
“Twitter will instantly send users real time public transport updates pertaining to the area”, said Raheel Khursheed, Director (News, Politics, Govt) of Twitter India.
On December 4, the Arvind Kejriwal government had announced that 4,000 buses will be “general” buses while 2,000 buses to be taken from schools after their duty hours will have 50 per cent seats reserved for women.
“At current, there are over 2,000 journeys of Metro all through the day. During the 15-day of odd-even scheme, there will be over 3,000 trips of Metro to cater to commuters”, he said.
Rai said the registration of 2,700 buses has been completed and the remaining 300 buses would be registered by Monday or Tuesday.
Private vehicles with odd and even registration numbers will ply on odd and even dates, respectively, from January 1.
