If the Colts do miss the playoffs, it will be just the third time they’ve not been in the postseason in the last 17 years. Not sure how convincing they are. He wears jersey No. 7. Only Miami’s ineptitude prevented the unthinkable.

We also saw some things that surprised: The Colts with an effective run game (Frank Gore ran for two touchdowns, and amassed the most rushing yards for a season by a Colts running back since 2007) and the Colts with their first safety of the season. The Colts offense, lined up on the Dolphins’ 11-yard-line, hands the ball off to Gore and he follows a pulling right guard, while adding some low, shifty running for the score. Both quarterbacks, Matt Hasselbeck for the Colts and Ryan Tannehill for the Dolphins were injured during the game.

Matt Hasselbeck was unable to finish yet another contest. Whitehurst is now limping around the locker room.

The Indianapolis Colts are getting accustomed to losing their quarterbacks.

“I don’t like it, but that’s where we’re at right now”, said Tannehill, who completed 26-of-38 passes for 329 yards with one interception (84.2 passer rating).

“I was just happy to play and have a good time in front of my fans”. An offsides penalty struck Gore’s fourth-quarter fumble from the record. Instead, it was their stoutness on their final defensive stand preventing the Dolphins from scoring as they tried to put together a game winning drive. But when it became clear he could not throw, it was fruitless to stay in the game. “They called the play”.

“I used to park cars at my auntie’s house to make a little money on the weekends”, he said.

But Mother Nature – and common sense – prevailed.

“I did OK, and I got a lot help”, Whitehurst said. “So I took his advice”.

Just 10 games need to go the Colts way.

“I’m not ruling anything out”, he said. A Cincinnati win at Denver Monday night would do that.

This week the 6-8 Indianapolis Colts travel to the Miami Dolphins who are 5-9 on the season.

Free-agent quarterback Josh Freeman will work out for the Indianapolis Colts on Monday in advance of their season finale against the Tennessee Titans. What was different was the timing: After exiting in the fourth quarter the past three weeks, Hasselbeck left Sunday’s game in the second quarter and did not return.

But this time, it was different. Charlie Whitehurst came in and played the rest of the game at quarterback. As far as him being passed, Adrian Peterson is only a couple hundred yards behind him and I imagine he will pass Gore at some point. He’s tough. Everybody knows that.

Hasselbeck has been dealing with shoulder and rib injuries that he suffered against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 12.

The group effort seemed to get better over the course of the game.

Robert Mathis’ two sacks gave him a team-high leading seven on the season.

They might not have a playoff spot. But it’s been that kind of season.
