FCC documents reveal a new Google Glass Enterprise Edition
Although it’s not that different from the first, it’s going to be aimed at enterprises, as several reports earlier in the year from 9to5Google suggested. Given that these images are starting to pop up, we may end up seeing a new version of Google Glass revealed at some point next year. He’s a hardware veteran who hails from Apple and joined Google when it bought his smart thermostat company Nest for hundreds of millions in 2014.
The new Google Glass for the workplace will feature a foldable design but only one of the FCC images show the device with a nose ridge, so we don’t know if the final design will be supported by the user’s nose like a standard pair of glasses. The device has an improved battery and will also have an external battery pack that attaches to Glass via magnets. One change that even casual Glass fans might notice, is the larger prism on the new model.
The most obvious change is the hinged design, allowing this device (unlike its predecessor) to be folded up and stuck in a pocket – that should come in handy when you’re asked to take the device off at the many restaurants, movie theaters and other locations where it’s been banned. The power button has been moved to the back of the device and the manual says the light on the front of the device lights up when the camera is in use. The bad news is that the Enterprise Edition likely won’t be made available to us regular folk.
While consumers won’t get the chance to purchase the new Google Glass, at least not for now, you can check out the FCC pictures of the redesigned wearable by clicking on the slideshow below.
