The Chargers Reportedly Fined Eric Weddle For The Most Heartless Reason
According to Weddle’s agent the team fined him $10,000 for staying on the field during halftime of the Chargers Week 15 game against the Miami Dolphins to watch his daughter perform a dance routine.
Throughout the year, Weddle hasn’t let his personal frustrations impact the team and he’s still performing at a high level and doing everything he can to be a true professional in the face of adversity.
The San Diego Chargers picked safety Eric Weddle with the 37th overall pick in 2007, and Weddle has played exceedingly well for the Chargers, named to the Pro Bowl three times and an Associated Press All-Pro selection twice.
After the last of the fans left, Weddle went out to midfield to lie on his back on the Chargers helmet logo for a few minutes.
Though he is in the final year of the five-year, $40 million contract he signed with the team in 2011, Weddle certainly could have re-signed with the only National Football League team he’s ever known. The Union Tribune said the fine came because Weddle remained on the field at halftime. The injury is another point of contention as the Chargers have placed Weddle on injured reserve, ending his season, against his wishes.
That possibly might not be necessary based on a series of tweets from Weddle’s agent David Canter on Monday afternoon. To make matters even worse, they told him that there wouldn’t be room for him on the team plane as the Chargers travel to Denver for their season finale. He did report on time for training camp.
