Texas police taking new open carry gun law in stride
It’s a prohibition that has lasted since the end of the Civil War, but it will finally come to an end on New Year’s Day: Texas will become the 45th state in the Union to allow the open carry of handguns.

Texas had almost 826,000 concealed license holders in 2014, which ranks among the nation’s highest.
Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (trespass by holder of license to carry a concealed handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (concealed handgun law), may not enter this property with a concealed handgun.
“We’ve changed things here a lot and we’ve not thought this through”, said Charley Wilkison, executive director of the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, the state’s largest law enforcement officers’ union.
The Organization recently launched a membership outreach program and found a distinct break down on the Open Carry issue. Business that want to ban all guns from the premisis have to post two signs.
Amid a spate of shootings across the country in 2015, including several at colleges, many states now are pushing legislation to allow concealed weapons to be carried on campuses so that students and faculty can defend themselves. “There’s no need to carry a gun here”, said Rodney Bennett.
