NC viral video shows couple’s homemade ‘shark cages’ at Outer Banks
North Carolina’s surge of shark attacks won’t stop one couple from enjoying their day at the beach.
OUTER BANKS, N.C. – A man and woman were called out of the water at Kill Devil Hills Beach, Outer Banks, North Carolina, not because there was a shark, but because of what they were wearing. The video was recorded in the North Carolina’s Outer Banks, where a string of shark sightings have been reported.
Cutrell later posted the video to 94.5 WXMS’s Facebook page and explained that the couple was trying to promote a “shark proof cage invention”.
Cutrell said the makeshift cages appeared to be made out of plastic and not out of something that would prevent a shark attack.
“Everyone was curious of what was going on and was in awe”, she told WBTV.
Ben Battaile, assistant ocean rescue supervisor for Kill Devil Hills, told WITN the main concern for rescuers was the possibility of the couple getting in water over their head and needing to be rescued. The couple then begins shaking the cages to show in that they are not in fact metal, yet the lifeguard does not appear to alter his mind.
