Odell Beckham, Jr. Suspension Upheld
National Football League official spokesperson Michael Signora announced the suspension on Monday after Beckham had three personal fouls called against him during the Giants’ 38-35 loss to the Panthers at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
Giants punter Brad Wing said the Carolina player exchanged words several times with Beckham, who replied, “Why you not playing?” and according to Wing was told, “I’ll be the reason you don’t play today and other days”, before he and others ended the exchange. Norman retaliated, and both players received unnecessary roughness penalties, though neither was ejected.
New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. lost his appeal and will serve his one game suspension this Sunday.
The suspension was handed down by NFL Vice President of Football Operations Merton Hanks, who wrote in a letter to the player: “Acts that jeopardize the safety of players or expose them to unnecessary risk can not be tolerated”.
The New York Daily News says Beckham answered no questions when he left the hearing and appeared emotional, shielding his face from cameras. Beckham will not play in Sunday night’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings because of his actions this past week vs. the Carolina Panthers. “But there were factors involved, starting in pregame, which are well-documented, which indicates there was an attempt to provoke him”, Coughlin told reporters.
Kubiak said Manning will workout in the morning but won’t participate in practice. Perhaps the dirtiest play was when he launched himself directly into Norman’s head even when action was already halted.
“I think that’s any athlete’s mindset”, Osweiler said.
Odell Beckham’s one-game suspension upheld – NFL.com Beckham issued an apology shortly after the appeal announcement: I owe some people an apology. This isn’t about anything that was said or done to me. “I guess the fans and some (players) didn’t see it the same way we did”. Compared to Beckham, who will miss a crucial game as his team barely clings on to their playoff hopes, Norman got off easy. The case will be in the hands of hearing officers appointed by the player’s union and the NFL.
Ball seemed to deny the accusation he threatened Beckham, telling Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer, “If I had $1 for all the ex-girlfriends that have false accusations about me…” Irvin also reveals that other players around the league are most likely jealous that the star receiver has been getting so much shine, while the Giants haven’t won many games this season. “You know, once you get your feet on the field, you don’t want to go back to the bench”. The two were separated by members of the Giants, including Wing.
“As we go through the week we’ll determine that, some of that has to do with Brian Hoyer and his ability to be cleared”, O’Brien said.
