Rock Hall announces 2016 inductees
Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple, Steve Miller and N.W.A. will all be inducted to the Rock Hall in April 2016 at a ceremony at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. From media pariahs to pop-culture darlings, the team of California rappers will finally see their placement in history cemented when they’re inducted into the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Performers are eligible for induction into the Cleveland, Ohio-based Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first recording, and are voted on by a pool of 800 members of the Hall of Fame Foundation. Chicago got the highest tally of votes, at more than 37 million, which was nearly a quarter of all the votes.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame reportedly dismissed a large number of their voters and this year, and tried to include more women and younger voters in the process of determining who the inductees should be.
The hopefuls that lost out as this year’s potential newcomers were Janet Jackson, The Cars, The JB’s, Yes, The Smiths, Chaka Khan and Chic, as well as Los Lobos and Nine Inch Nails. “We are extremely excited and we are happy for that”. Since the 1970s, Cheap Trick have been a constant presence on the touring circuit, making them one of rock’s more prolific acts. This would please him I think because the music that we did is a force to be reckoned with.
NME reports that the inductees have been revealed for the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. To coincide with the news, the band also announced a new label deal with Big Machine Records.
Cheap Trick, like Steve Miller, had also never before been nominated. Cube says that he will “want to” perform at the induction ceremony next spring: “I think we can get Ren, Yella and Dre together. It’s just exciting that the group as a whole gets recognized by the whole industry as Hall of Fame-worthy”. Miller was quoted as saying “I have no respect for them“. “Chicago’s early line-up created such an unmistakable sound and their inclusion into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is not only well-deserved, but an honour that has been overlooked”.
