Barcelona cancel Guardiola deal
Guardiola’s tweets, dug up from 2013, had phrases like “HALA MADRID” and “puta catalunya” which translates to “Let’s go Madrid” and “F*** Catalonia”.
The 24-year-old completed a dream move to Barca on Monday after signing for the Catalan heavyweights alongside Xemi of Cornella and Mosies Delgado of Sevilla, with the trio all destined for the club’s second side, Barcelona B.
Barcelona have terminated the contract of Sergi Guardiola only hours after signing him on Monday due to tweets sent from the midfielder’s Twitter account over two years ago.
“I want to make clear I didn’t write those tweets”.
“I apologise to Barca and to Catalonia”, Guardiola said. I understand the decision, I’d do the same. “A friend took my phone and did it. It’s a misunderstanding”, he told the Spanish radio station Cope. I didn’t write [the tweets], it was in 2013 and I didn’t even know they existed.
As soon as the club realised, they ripped up Guardiola’s contract and deleted the story from their website, before revealing to their fans just what they’d done with Guardiola via the club’s website.
“Barcelona have treated me very well. Now I’m going home, we’ll see what happens”.
The man in question was Sergi Guardiola, who earned himself a deal with Barcelona’s B team.
