Klopp warns Liverpool to be wary of Sunderland’s response
Sturridge, who watched on as his teammates battled to a 1-0 victory over league leaders Leicester City on Boxing Day, has already suffered three separate injury lay-offs during manager Jurgen Klopp’s short time at the club.
Substitute Benteke was the man of the moment with a well-taken finish which prompted Klopp to the Belgian global for his contribution. While he’s not naturally the most mobile forward, Benteke will need to be able to improve his work rate if he’s to thrive in Klopp’s setup, it would seem.
Klopp, however, is refusing to take any risks with the England worldwide and told several national newspapers: “This is absolutely the same thing that Daniel said four weeks ago, and we let him play and he was injured again”. “But we are working on it. Always when it comes to scoring goals, you have to be in situations more often – you can not say wait for the one chance and you will score it because it is not like this”.
“At the beginning we were too anxious and nervous and we started to play so late, I don’t know why”.
Speaking on the Liverpool’s strategy against Sunderland, Klopp said that his side have to display similar performance as they had shown during his side’s 1-0 win over Leicester City.
“He is a player with such potential, so always if he doesn’t play perfectly you think, ‘OK, there’s a little bit, there’s a little bit [to improve]'”.
“We were too anxious and nervous at the beginning”, he said.
“Of course I am still a young player and I want to learn”, he said.
“There’s no reason to doubt the mentality of the team (or worry) that they’ll maybe think “it’s only Sunderland” or anything like that”.
“If you give them open gaps in the midfield, it’s almost not possible to look good as a centre half and how we did against Leicester and in some other games makes the job easier for them”.
Henderson has made just three Barclays Premier League starts under the German manager, with a heel issue and a broken metatarsal having kept him sidelined between August and December.
“I think we showed our great team spirit, we were attacking all together like a team and we were also a team defensively”. He gets better and better.
Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri does not believe defeat at Liverpool will knock his side out of their stride.
“It’s unbelievable and you should take every one you can”.
