James Blake Grabs Kanye West, Justin Vernon For New Album
Furthermore, a report from Pitchfork confirmed that Blake did in fact worked with West and Vernon for the new album, which is expected to hit the shelves anytime this year. We’d already started on something but it’s not in full swing. If it doesn’t end up on the album you know it hasn’t worked.
The British musician is prepping his third album, titled “Radio Silence“, recently performing the title-track live. Whether or not Blake is enlisting West and Vernon for the same song is still unclear, but all three share a history of collaboration with Vernon credited on parts of Ye’s Yeezus and himself featured on Blake’s 2011 EP Enough Thunder.
On a less “hype” note, Connan Mockasin is also involved. It’s no surprise that Kanye West has declared Blake as his favorite artist, as the London-native has brought an airy, diverse approach to the music world.
However, past year the “Retrograde” singer confessed it was tricky trying to arrange a track with the rapper – who has two-year-old daughter North with wife Kim Kardashian West – because Kanye insists on being in the same room when he’s working with another musician. “I’ve had a lot more freedom since the first album, too”, he said at the time. “It’s hard to say what will end up on the record, but it’s exciting”.
Radio Silence will follow James Blake’s 2013 Mercury Prize-winning release Overgrown.
