‘I will not resign as Man. U manager’ – Van Gaal
Louis van Gaal says he will not resign as Manchester United manager despite them going eight games without a win after the 0-0 draw with Chelsea. We’re having a tough time, everyone knows that, but we will keep fighting and come back. I know that, they players and board know that. “We have not won, but now we are three games [unbeaten] and that is important”.
But Dutchman van Gaal has vowed to fight on after seeing his players dig deep with an improved display against the defending champions. He is in charge for Chelsea’s visit to Old Trafford on Monday night, despite admitting he could quit United before he is axed. Maybe the media wants me to but I shall not resign.
“We have dominated the game I think for seventy per cent”, said van Gaal afterwards.
Chelsea are only three points above the relegation zone, but Hiddink, who revealed that Cesc Fabregas had missed the match with a high temperature, said that they were moving in the right direction.
As well as results, supporters have vented their anger at United’s style of play, particularly a lack of attacking threat.
Even when results have been good, United fans have wanted to enjoy watching their team play attractive football.
“I am fully confident in the board and my players”. In the insane football world it can happen every day.
However, Van Gaal voiced his frustration with Martin Atkinson’s decision not to award United a penalty at Old Trafford. We created some magnificent chances and for everyone in the crowd I think it was a lovely game.
“The keeper was beaten and then we hit the post and inside post – and then we saw great saves by their keeper”.
The Dutchman’s only disappointment was with referee Martin Atkinson, who failed to award United two penalties.
“I think I put my foot correctly”, Herrera told MUTV.
A handful of fans snapped them up for the asking price of £10 and inside the stadium, one fan held up a placard that read: “Leave, Vanish, Go”. “That is my analysis”.
Van Gaal continued that it was those around the Premier League that were fanning the belief that Manchester United was in crisis.
“I’m pleased because we had some good opportunities in the second half”. “But I would have been more anxious (if) there was a lack of confidence or a lack of ambition or lethargy”.
Van Gaal said he was only too aware that poor form could force a club to sack its manager, but he had the backing of the players and would fight on.
Chelsea also had chances to score, with David De Gea turning John Terry’s header over the bar, before making an impressive double save from Pedro and Cesar Azpilicueta early in the second half. “Everyone in the changing room is disappointed we did not win”, the France global said.
