Star Wars – The Force Awakens releases in India today

The space saga racked up US$391.1 million in its first week – obliterating the record of $296.2 million set in June by the first week of “Jurassic World”. As many Star Wars fans take to Twitter to express their concern, hatred and mourning for the loss of any kind of Force Awakens DLC in Star Wars: Battlefront, you have to sit back and realize maybe EA has sights on a new Star Wars game entirely focused on content from Force Awakens.
Another notable piece of information about the next “Star Wars” film is that “The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams will not helm it. Abrams has said that he had “horrifying” experiences while working on the recently released film, most notably when he had to screen the unfinished version to high-ranking Disney executives.
Overseas, Force Awakens earned another $38.4 million for a foreign tally of $400.4 million and global haul of $765.9 million. At this pace, it will reach $1 billion in less than two weeks.
Now it’s also dethroned Chris Pratt’s dinosaur blockbuster for another honor as the fastest film to crack the $300 million barrier at the box office; Jurassic World managed the feat in an impressive eight days. Star Wars firmly belongs to the third category and it is close to four decades since we have been one with The Force. On Friday, the Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg comedy “Daddy’s Home”, the action adventure remake “Point Break”, the Miracle Mop maker biopic “Joy” and the Will Smith drama “Concussion” all debut in wide release.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s female-skewing Sisters looks to have held at No. 3 with an estimated $2.5 million from 2,962 theaters for a six day total of $21.8 million for Universal.
