Hamilton, Ohio, firefighter dies in burning building
NBC affiliate WLWT out of Cincinnati has confirmed that a firefighter has died while fighting a house fire in Hamilton.
The department said Patrick Wolterman died of his injuries after falling through a floor and into the basement.
( Hamilton, Ohio ) – Firefighters are dealing with a loss of one of their own in the line of duty just three days after Christmas.
Services are scheduled for Thursday, including a public memorial service and a procession.
Fire officials say crews entered the home around 1 a.m. Monday after receiving a report that someone was trapped. He said other firefighters responded to his mayday call and took him to a hospital, but he later died.
Wolterman graduated from Roger Bacon High School in 2005 and was recently married.
Wolterman was hired by the department on April 25, 2015. Home heating fires are most likely to happen during this time of the year.
“Both the cause of the fire and the cause and details of the catastrophic event that resulted in Firefighter Wolterman’s death are under investigation”, Dawson said.
Fire officials said Tuesday they “have no idea” what caused the fire that ultimately cost Hamilton Firefighter Patrick Wolterman his life.
This is the third Tri-State firefighter this year to die in the line of duty.
