Apple Lines up New Beats Radio Stations
All four trademark applications are assigned to “Beats Electronics, LLC”, have the same logo that Apple uses for its Beats 1 radio station, and are listed under broadcasting- and streaming music-related categories, indicating that Apple could be planning an expansion of its Beats radio network in the future. If other Beats stations are launched, each one could be focused on a certain style of music. Launched in June, Apple Music is Apple’s attempt to carry its dominance of digital music through its iTunes store into the era of music streaming. The iPhone and iPad maker filed a trademark application for Beats 2, Beats 3, Beats 4, and Beats 5, and all sport the same logo design as Beats 1. The website also notes Apple’s licensing agreement with music labels allows it to create up to five stations like Beats 1 without signing a new agreement.
Beats 1 has been known and praised by some critics saying that it has been the best part of Apple Music service. Currently, the tech company’s 24/7 global live radio station is being anchored by renowned DJs, Zane Lowe, Julie Adenuga and Ebro Darden. It has also been reported earlier that Apple has already registered domains beats2.com.cn, beats2.hk and beats4.com.ru in several countries around the world. These figures stipulated it had 15 million users, of which 6.5 million are paid subscribers. It could even plant them across different geographic regions to cover the content in different languages or target more time zones. It offers a more personalized way to discover music, unlike the curated music shows offered by Apple Music. Such unique features earned it a large number of dedicated followers, who are unlikely to switch to other music streaming options so easily.
