Cruz Caught in a Massive Lie: Evangelical Base Will be Unfazed
It seemed they were the best of friends.
“Senator Rubio is inspiring”.
“I think Ted Cruz needs to be clear about what his stance is today on that, but I can tell you what it’s been in the past”, Rubio said.
Rubio doubled down on his line of attack highlighting Cruz’s support for an amendment in 2013 that would have doubled the number of green cards and increased five-fold the number of visas for highly skilled foreign workers.
But that was two years ago.
Six months into his campaign, Donald Trump broke some news: he’s definitely running to be the Republican candidate for President. His staff, scrambling to clean up after his debate mess, suggests he now sort of supports Donald Trump’s unrealistic proposal to deport all of them.
Ben Carson also continues to campaign in Iowa. I hope not – less because of what it would do to Rubio’s future than what it means for the future of the Republican Party.
While defending his judgment skills against recent criticisms from Texas Sen. “They were not telling the truth”, Ted Cruz said Thursday in Las Vegas. “Anyone can say that. You can’t even begin that process until you prove to people… you’re gonna bring illegal immigration under control”. “Normally, you have two votes, either yes or no …” There’s no logical reason for Cruz to attack citizenship but not legalization unless he’s leaving the door open a crack for the latter.
Rubio won his seat in 2010 with support from the budding Tea Party movement.
Cruz got repeated roars of approval from a crowd of hundreds packed into a pavilion alongside the Mississippi River as he promised to put a conservative imprint on Washington from day one in the White House – from investigating Planned Parenthood to abolishing the IRS. Cruz did not, but he clearly did support legal status, or “amnesty” as he calls it.
“Cruz aides, some using the hash tag “#MarcoNoShow”, pounced on Rubio’s absence from the vote – he was stumping in Iowa at the time – also needling him over his relatively slow schedule on the campaign trail. Rubio has more allies in the Senate, while Cruz has more often angered his GOP colleagues.
Tuesday’s CNN Republican debate was a last chance to shine for candidates in 2015.
The bill, in addition to border security measures, would have created a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants in the USA if they met certain criteria and paid a tax penalty.
At that time, Cruz was offering one of his amendments to the so-called “Gang of Eight” comprehensive immigration reform bill, which Rubio helped to draft. So now they want everyone to know that Ted Cruz supported legalization of illegal aliens. Cruz has never wavered from that position.
Rubio and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, both have to deal with the political impact of contradictory things theyve said about immigration.
Cruz, the firebrand senator who favors plaid shirts and bacon cooked on gun muzzles over guayaberas and Cuban sandwiches, has lashed out at his rival for supporting a more forgiving immigration policy. “In fact changed his vote on the floor of the Senate”, Rubio said.
If you want to see Marco Rubio dance on hot coals, ask him about immigration. If your eyes are glazing over like mine, this is what it’s like to be on the floor of the United States Senate. “I think if people have real confidence that the law is being enforced, that we’re not going to have this problem again, that there’s real border security, I think you buy yourself more space and more flexibility in finally dealing with those that are here illegally”.
“One of the most troubling aspects of the Rubio-Schumer Gang of Eight bill was that it gave President Obama blanket authority to admit refugees, including Syrian refugees without mandating any background checks whatsoever”. “It’s very, very un-presidential, and it’s not doing them any favors with the community”.
