NYPD detective killed in Afghanistan honored at wake: ‘He really was Superman’
Thousands of fellow police officers and Mayor de Blasio are expected to be among the mourners in attendance for a funeral Mass for the NYPD detective killed in a suicide attack in Afghanistan last week.
Lemm was a 15 year NYPD veteran and a member of the Air National Guard.

On Thursday, the remains of 31-year-old Staff Sgt. Louis Bonacasa of Long Island will be returned in a ceremony at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh.
“He really was Superman to all those who knew him”, Maj. “It’s harder still to believe that he’s gone”.
Roads around the cathedral were shut down Wednesday morning ahead of the funeral. Timothy Cardinal Dolan will give the funeral mass.
A Purple Heart recipient, Lemm received several awards and commendations during his three tours of duty in Both Iraq and Afghanistan.
On Monday, his casket was flown to Stewart aboard a C-17 aircraft and was welcomed with a solemn ceremony that included members of the 105th Airlift Wing, Lemm’s family and the New York Police Department.
