Latest loss shows need for Jaguars to overhaul defense
“I think Jim Bob and I are on the same page the majority, if not all, the time”, Stafford said. Seems it’s too late; the insane is already there, running the team.
On the first drive of the game, Brees drove the Saints 80 yards in ten plays for a touchdown.
For a quarterback who tops out at barely 5-foot-11, Drew Brees has been remarkably bulletproof in his 15-year National Football League career by the way he stands tall among defenders who are bigger, stronger and faster. That’s nearly a full quarter of the Saints’ 2015 salary cap, tied up in players who are no longer Saints.
Bortles’ numbers were pretty against the Saints, as they should have been. Wielding pitchforks last month, fans called for Smith to be activated to boost the four-man pass rush. Linebacker Curtis Lofton is costing them $5 million.
Four defensive penalties. Five missed tackles.
The Saints clearly would lean toward the Gruden- and Parcells-like packages as their asking price to teams interested in the 52-year-old Payton. Somehow, even Champ Bailey is still costing them a relatively negligible but still hilarious $250,000.
He certainly did not show it in the first half as the New Orleans Saints jumped out to a 24-0 lead in the first half of the game, as they held off the Jacksonville Jaguars, 38-27. The Jaguars’ third-year head coach rambled about how quarterback Drew Brees confused his Jaguars with alignments, shifts and changes in personnel groupings. It’s a result of continued incompetence in the Saints’ front office. Since trades for coaches are not technically allowed, a coach has to consent to the move as the draft choice compensation package and his contract with the new team are negotiated.
“If there’s anybody in the league who has earned the right to decide himself if he wants to tough it out – you know, he’s a competitor; he wants to play – he’s earned that right to decide for himself”, Flynn said of Brees.
The duo combined for 14 receptions for 257 receiving yards and three touchdowns on Sunday.
They were right, but probably wished they were wrong.
Brees believes the Saints can be a contender again with this team soon. Unfortunately, they’ve now hit a record-breaking level. If they move on from Spiller, they’ll add another $4 million. Cutting him would reduce the burden, but still leave the Saints with another $10 million in dead money. Without Marques Colston, Brandon Coleman came in and filled the void. The Saints only punted once when it mattered and were unstoppable for most of the game.
It’s cowardly of the Saints’ front office to use Brees’ contract to redirect attention away from their own bad decisions. Plus, it gives management and the coaching staff to see if Hayes Pullard has a role next year as a back-up (maybe) and Denard Robinson can be the No. 2 tailback (no way). Somebody named Travaris Cadet, a fourth-team back just signed off the practice squad on Wednesday, got open down the sideline for a 44-yard touchdown catch, badly eluding safety Sergio Brown en route to the end zone.
