Chip Kelly fired after Eagles moves lead to missed playoffs
“To the extent that we are able, we will try to keep you informed as we go through this process”.
We’ll have full coverage on the aftermath of Kelly’s firing Wednesday, including notes from Lurie’s press conference at noon. Second, being a head coach and a general manager is a near impossibility – they’re two separate full-time jobs that are daunting for anyone, let alone a greenhorn who’d been the offensive coordinator at New Hampshire as recently as this decade. The Eagles also fired Ed Marynowitz, vice president of player personnel, whom Kelly promoted last January despite him being 31 years old and with no experience in that role.
For Kelly, who posted a 26-21 record and won a division title in his first season, to get sacked like this hints that this wasn’t just a business transaction, but also something a little personal.
Here’s the thing: Kelly needs Mariota far more than Mariota needs Kelly.
The Eagles were 4-12 in Andy Reid’s last season in 2012.
Roseman was elevated to the Eagles’ GM in 2010 and, frankly, didn’t do that great a job.
Garrett’s winning percentage with another 2 1/2 seasons under his belt remains lower than Kelly’s. And it looked like Chip Kelly was about to tie himself to Sam Bradford. The team has digressed each season, going from the NFC East champion in 2013 to a nonplayoff, 10-6 team in 2014 to a 6-9 team that lost a must-win home game to Washington on Saturday that eliminated the Birds from playoff contention.

Kelly’s tenure won’t go down as a rousing success, but it definitely shouldn’t be remembered as a failure.
And Kelly used that to get control over personnel without even winning a National Championship in college! The team you’ll hear the most about over the next several days will be the Tennessee Titans.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that a few weeks ago, he was told by a Titans’ source that Kelly was not on their list of coaching candidates because he was still under contract. However, don’t go fantasizing about that just yet, Titans fans.
As for Kelly, he told Fox’s Jay Glazer he’d like to remain in the NFL.
Chip Kelly was on his way to changing the game, and the Eagles were going to be the beneficiary. In his first two years, Kelly and Roseman reported directly to Lurie and Kelly only had control of the 53-man roster.
A potential move that would possible break the internet is Chip Kelly to Cleveland.
I don’t think this means that Kelly’s college-proven system can’t work in the NFL. He alienated some of his players, though the only ones who spoke out against him did it after they were gone.
NJ.com breaks down the biggest reasons Kelly didn’t last in Philadelphia. According to NJ.com, at least one player learned of the firing over Twitter.
