Three ex-Ooltewah basketball players charged with aggravated rape, assault
30, 2015, 20:09 Tennessee highschool basketball players charged with raping, assaulting teammate Three Ooltewah basketball players have been charged with aggravated rape & aggravated assault after a hazing occurrence at a basketball tournament in Gatlinburg.
All three suspects have been officially kicked off the team.
The alleged assault occurred three days before Christmas in the basement of a cabin the team rented while playing in the Smoky Mountain Classic basketball tournament.
Details have been slow to emerge in the case, but a family member of the victim told the Chattanoogan that the 15-year-old boy “was tortured by three of his teammates” when they violated him in an apparent hazing incident.
On December 23, staff at the LeConte Medical Center dialed 911 after the male victim was brought into the hospital by a coach after he had been assaulted at a rental cabin.
“He had to undergo emergency surgery [in Knoxville], as his colon and bladder were ruptured”, the unnamed relative told the paper. A family member of the victim, speaking with the Chattanoogan, said that the others had used a wooden pool stick to sodomize the victim. They are now being held at Sevier County Juvenile Facility, per WBIR-TV. However, she said “it was later found that he was beaten and sodomized by fellow teammates”. Their names have not been released because all are juveniles.
Nayadley said all the proper procedures were followed for the trip, and as far as he knows Montgomery did everything he could to handle the situation.
She said he “is expected to recover within 2-3 months”.
