Recently retired Ravens receiver Steve Smith tweets he’s returning in 2016
Wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. has made up his mind.
Smith, who suffered a season-ending right Achilles tendon tear on November 1, had declared that this season would be his last.
Smith ended speculation that he would call off his retirement by announcing his intention to return in 2016.
Smith announced Wednesday on Twitter that his plans for next year include, “Making a comeback, returning to the Baltimore Ravens ready to play football in 2016”. The 36-year-old Smith is the father of four children: Peyton, Baylee, Boston and Steve Jr. He had 670 receiving yards through seven games, creating the league’s fourth-best receiving yards-per-game average (95.7). He trails James Lofton by 72 yards for 10th on the career receiving yards list and Tim Brown by 1,002 yards for No. 6.
Smith, a 2001 third-round pick, spent 13 seasons with the Carolina Panthers and was a five-time Pro Bowler before he was released in March 2014 in a cost-cutting move.
