Manuel Pellegrini happy with clean sheet but rues dropped points at Leicester
Asked about skipper Kompany’s latest injury setback, boss Pellegrini revealed: “Vincent has a second degree tear of the calf”.
The Belgium global has suffered a string of calf injuries that have hampered his season.
Kompany has started just eight Premier League games all season for City and the stalemate at the King Power Stadium was the first time Pellegrini’s men have stopped the opposition scoring in his absence.
The Manchester City manager told the club’s official website: “We will see how long Vincent will be out, but I don’t think it will be less than 3-4 weeks”. “I think that we have a system and it is very important when we play to get the amount of points needed to win the title”.
Manchester City were held to a goalless draw at Leicester City and Manuel Pellegrini felt the visitors should have taken all three points. “But, without him, we must continue to defend as did tonight”.
“Without doubt, (we need) to push on, we need to win all our home games and be hard to beat in our away games as well”.
Leicester City, coming off only their second loss of the season, a 0-1 away defeat to Liverpool on Boxing Day, looked impressive, containing the offensive firepower of Manchester City, who now sit in third place with 36 points.
Many believe that without the presence of Kompany at the back, City are simply not the same force but defensive colleague Otamendi has stated that the Citizens are a more than capable side, even without the Belgian star. Recently myself and Mangala have played together and we always focus on that clean sheet. We lost that game so it is very hard when you don’t win to say good things but we are in a very good position. “Kasper Schmeichel did well and made a few good saves, but we maybe should have done better with the chances we had”, he added.
“I am not happy but not disappointed also because I think we played well but we couldn’t score”. “I am sure in the second round we are going to be involved to the end for the fight for the title”.
