Jaguars owner Khan: Coach Bradley will return next season
Jaguars Owner Shad Khan released a statement Tuesday in which he announced that Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley will be back for the 2016 season.
Jaguars coach Gus Bradley tried to talk about the Houston Texans, his team’s practice effort and the recent form of center Stefen Wisniewski and punter Bryan Anger Wednesday at EverBank Field.
But by electing to keep Bradley aboard, it’s imperative that he gives the Jaguars something vital in return: either a playoff berth or a 10-win season should be the minimum requirement next year for the 49-year-old boss to keep his job into 2017.
“I spoke to Gus Bradley today to confirm to him that he will continue as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016”.
Jacksonville Jaguars coach Gus Bradley understands that the National Football League is a bottom-line business. Khan said he spoke to Bradley and general manager Dave Caldwell earlier in the day to make them aware of his intentions. “We have high ambitions”, the statement says. You really just come in and all of your attention is to the players and the coaches and, ‘What do we need to do to improve this and get better?’ We knew it was going to be tough on the organization, on the players, on our fans, and our fans and our community and Shad, they deserve better. Next year will be the final year of Bradley’s contract, according to ESPN.
The roster since 2013 has undergone a dramatic rebuild, with Caldwell emphasizing building through the draft and establishing a foundation that can grow with young players toward long-term success.
The Jaguars defense in 2015 has been a trainwreck, to be kind. The Jaguars allowed 537 yards in a…
The offense showed improvement this year with three second-year players – quarterback Blake Bortles and wide receivers Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns – showing a lot of potential for the future. He won four games in 2013 and three in 2014, and 19 of the 25 losses in those two season were by double digits – including the first eight games in 2013. They fell behind New Orleans 24-0 last Sunday before losing, 38-27, and can’t afford to fall into a big hole against Houston. The injury to their 2015 first round pick Dante Fowler Jr. certainly did not help a defensive unit that could use some more talent, but his return in 2016 should be a huge boost to the defense. It worked and the Jaguars have one of the most explosive passing attacks in the NFL.
