Memphis removes Ball from program after postgame incident
The University of Memphis has removed cornerback Reggis Ball from the Memphis football team.
Jeremy Johnson came off the bench to run & pass for a touchdown, lifting Auburn to a 31-10 success over Memphis on Wednesday. within the Birmingham Bowl.Johnson sparked a sputtering offense in that scored three touchdowns in a five-minute span beginning late within the 3rd quarter.
Auburn’s equipment staff said Ball made off with one of the team’s practice footballs that was lying in the kicking nets on the ground.
“We’re embarrassed about the actions that occurred after the game and that is definitely not the standards or expectations the Memphis football program stands for”, said Norvell, who was at the game.
A blocked field goal and a pair of blown punt return coverages were all huge momentum swingers in this game.
A defense without a coordinator didn’t allow an offensive touchdown for Memphis (9-4) and star quarterback Paxton Lynch.

Memphis interim coach Darrell Dickey was asked about the incident in his postgame press conference.
Johnson gave Auburn a 17-10 lead with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jason Smith. Entering the bowl, he was projected as the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the 2016 NFL Draft.
According to The Ledger-Enquirer, the Auburn equipment staff was warned that if Ball were to get an interception, he has a history of attempting to steal a ball from the opponent after the game.
Auburn outscored Memphis by 14 points in the final quarter and held the Tigers to 206 total yards in a 31-10 victory.
Through a statement, Memphis announced that Ball was expelled from the team. Keep in mind that although Memphis is a passing team first, it still averaged 186 yards per game. He threw the touchdown pass and then he comes back and scores the touchdown. Auburn punter Kevin Phillips was game’s leading passer after a quarter, throwing for 37 yards on his only pass….
